“They look absolutely fantastic! Thank you for being there, our guests loved you both and repeatedly mentioned your enthusiasm and professionalism.” Marine and George
Every so often, I get invited by my lovely couples to accompany them to an exotic location for their wedding. It’s not something I seek out, but it is a privilege to be asked, and it shows a high level of trust in my ability to document their day, especially, somehow, if we have to fly to get there. This destination wedding in Paros, one of the Greek islands in the Cyclades, and perfect for destination weddings and honeymoons. It’s about 100 miles across the seas from the port of Piraeus, but, oh so well worth the trip. My trusty associate, Carol, was invited too, which meant that our couple would get a really comprehensive set of images.
It was Hot and Sunny! just as Marine and George had hoped, and with a cooling breeze, their ceremony took place on the terrace of a tiny Greek chapel, in the shade of some olive trees, overlooking the sea. The Priest was a fantastic character, and performed for me as much as for their ceremony, and with his cloak wafting in the wind, he made an imposing figure. I always love to see different customs at weddings, and it’s interesting to see how many rituals are common to different cultures. Here the couple were each given a glass of wine to drink, just as they would in a Jewish ceremony. Except that here George had to down the lot! Rice was thrown over the couple for good luck.
We took time out to explore the local area for some gorgeous portraits of Marine and George, before heading of for food, drinks and dancing. My favourite from our portrait session is shown above – it’s quite a place, isn’t it!
Here’s their story. Yiamas!
