One Great George Street is a fabulous venue for weddings, and just off Parliament Square in Westminster, London, is well placed for great wedding photography! Katie and Chris had both their wedding ceremony and their reception there, it was a fabulous day, and very emotional, especially for Chris!
I was with the girls for getting ready photos, and Dana was with the boys. This is often the way we work first thing, getting to know everyone and settling in for the day together. We meet up later at the ceremony venue, and continue our reportage coverage from different viewpoints as the day unfolds. However, as you’ll see below, we also include groups, some formal, some informal, as this too is an important part of the day. The family groups were shot in St James Park, and although there were a lot of people around, many of them applauding and congratulating Katie and Chris, we found a spot to shoot comfortably and without too much distraction behind.
We walked back along Great George Street towards Parliament Square, as Katie and Chris were keen to use the red telephone boxes in some of their photos. We had a vigorous group portrait session with the bridal perty, before scooting Katie and Chris off to the far side of the square for some portraits with Westminster Palace in the background. I don’t usually shoot in full sunlight, I like the soft light of shade, but here we had no choice and worked with the sunlight to get some dramatic images for the couple.
You’ll also see the set-piece we always shoot in One Great George Street, of everyone looking up through the rotunda as the petals float down. Again, with two photographers, Dana caught the moment from below as the couple kissed. The ballroom is a magnificent setting for dining, and Katie and Chris looked radiant for their first dance together.
