This Image of the Week is pure Documentary Wedding Photography, totally unprompted, and all the more powerful for it. Taken immediately after Poppy and Boz’ wedding ceremony, the couple sought each other for a real hug, just for them.
Not the strongest composition, but occasionally the strength of an image comes from the emotion it shows, rather than perfect technical elements. I love images like this, and I’m always looking for them at my weddings. The story is told through other areas of the photograph too – the couple to the left behind are still arm in arm as they come out of the church, and one of the bridesmaids is already chatting excitedly behind Poppy.
But it is the expression of love on Poppy’s face that makes the photograph, the couple are oblivious to everything else around them, including me!
For the technically minded, the photograph was made using my lovely 50mm prime lens, the aperture was f1.6 @ 1/2000th second, and ISO 400. Converted to black and white in Photoshop.
