This week’s IOTW is a beautifully caught documentary image as Keely, the bride, is on her way to the wedding ceremony. I realised that she was going to cross the shafts of sunlight as she walked down the stairs at Theobalds Park wedding venue, and captured the image at the optimum moment.
Compositionally, Keely’s head is in the classic 1/3rd across the frame, and 1/3rd down. There is a strong diagonal line from the window ledge, top right, down across the dress. This leads the eye to another angle, 1/3rd up, with the bannister rail heading off to the bottom right corner of the image.
The exposure, as in most cases, was for the face, and there is a huge difference between the highlight and shadow areas, so although there is a little detail lost in the brightest parts of her dress, I think the exposure is about right. It’s a dynamic image of a calm and thoughtful moment.
