My Image of the Week was taken at a Hertfordshire wedding at Shendish Manor, which is well known by wedding photographers in Hertfordshire. I’ve chosen this image from Miranda and John’s wedding to show that it is sometimes important to look beyond. As wedding photographers, we naturally have 360 degree vision (oh yes!) but sometimes it’s easy to see only that which is immediately in front of us. Looking past the foreground is just as important as seeing all around.
This image was highly valued by the bride, as it is her father looking emotionally at her imminently new husband. Watching like a hawk for the decisive moment, I saw the emotion on his face and re-focussed to take a single frame, before coming back to the couple exchanging rings. It’s a telling and truthful image, illustrating the love and concerns of the father giving away his daughter.
