Derek is Gabriel’s granddad, and they have a very special relationship. After all, Derek has known Gabriel all his life, so he knows him very well. These days, they live near each other on the sunny south coast, so they can see as much of each other as they like. Family is so important – the older I get the more I realise that.
The other companion in Gabriel’s life is his dog Apollo, who, if not for a sturdy lead, would surely sprout wings and fly off. So this set of family portraits by the sea includes Apollo, as our pets are very much part of our families, especially as we find ourselves arranging our activities around them! I am speaking from experience – despite two hour-long walks a day, our dog Bracken is a very busy boy, and has just chewed through a cable!
And of course it is lovely to be by the sea – it gives you the space to think, and just be. Even on a very blowy day, it was great just to walk the beach with Gabriel and Apollo, finding photographs as we went, easy and relaxed.
