Jazz the dog

A big part of our family is our dog Jazz. We got her from a rescue centre about seven years ago. She’d been left there by a family who already had another dog, and then had a baby, and found that Jazz was one person too many in the house. The family had in turn rescued her from travellers, who had kicked and beaten her as a puppy, something which I’m sure Jazz remembers even now.

We know that she’s not good near feet, puppies or young children, and she’ll go to great lengths to avoid any of these. Despite her early upbringing, she is a great people dog, bright and well up for whatever is going on. My routine is to walk her twice a day, and that can be a great respite from the many hours I spend staring at the computer screen. We are very lucky here to have loads of great walks nearby, the park around St Albans Abbey is her usual run.

Suzanne and Gordon Engagement session

I went to meet Suzanne and Gordon at their wedding venue The Rectory Hotel in Crudwell, near Malmsbury, Wiltshire. The Rectory Hotel I had met Suzanne when she booked me to photograph her wedding, and I had the pleasure of meeting Gordon for the first time at the hotel. I always do a ‘recce’ sometime before the wedding day, for many reasons – it’s good to see the bride and groom again; it’s essential to plan shots and have bad weather contingencies; and it’s a great opportunity to create some lovely photographs before the intensity of the wedding day.

Suzanne and Gordon were naturals in front of the camera, even though they wouldn’t admit that, and in and around the boutique hotel there were many brilliant areas and backgrounds for photography. Here are a few…

Hello world!

HoneyWell, I thought it would be fun to start off with a totally random image of our friend Leanne’s dog Honey.

Starting a blog is a big adventure, and to a great extent I am learning as I go along. I will be posting about weddings, and trying not to post simply the best shots from the previous weekend’s wedding, although I will be doing that too! I will also be posting about photography from the photographer’s point of view, and I’ll also write about wedding photography with the bride and groom in mind. The other categories that I hope to have time to fill are Photoshop and Lightroom workflows, and stuff that I like doing generally.

I hope you’ll find it at least vaguely interesting, but I hope also you’ll give me time to find my feet and write some fascinating stuff.
